Nuclear medicine is a specialised branch that uses very small amounts of radioactive isotopes, or radiopharmaceuticals, to examine organ function and structure at a cellular level. It is capable of detecting disease at its earliest stages, targeting treatment to specific cells, and monitoring treatment response. 

These tests help diagnose and assess medical conditions and are both non-invasive and painless. Radiotracers travel to the area of the body being examined, such as a cancerous tumour or an inflamed area. The most commonly used radiotracer is F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG). 

At Park Hospital, the nuclear medicine department is equipped with modern gamma cameras and PET scanners, operated by trained professionals. These tests provide highly detailed functional imaging, often detecting changes at a cellular level.
