Surgical Oncology

Our surgeons and surgical oncology teams have years of experience performing surgical operations for a wide range of cancers, including tumours that were advanced and complicated. Our oncologists spend time with each patient discussing their diagnosis and treatment choices, as well as answering their questions and concerns. The surgical oncologists will interact with the other team members, who will include nutritionists, rehabilitation therapists, and naturopathic physicians, to anticipate and manage surgery-related adverse effects.

The kind, size, location, grade, and stage of the tumour, as well as general health considerations such as your age, physical fitness, and any concurrent medical issues, determine whether a patient is a suitable candidate for surgery.

Surgical Oncology's Objectives
There are numerous reasons why someone who has cancer or is suspected of having cancer may need surgery. Surgical oncology can be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Diagnosis of cancer - Diagnostic surgery or biopsy
  • Remove a tumor or a portion of the cancer
  • Determine where the cancer is located, whether it has spread, and whether it is affecting the functions of other organs
  • Remove body tissue that may become cancerous
  • Support other types of treatment, such as installing an infusion port
  • Restore the body's appearance or function
  • Relieve side effects
