3 critical heart disease cases were successfully operated upon by Dr Harinder Singh Bedi – Director of Cardio Vascular Sciences at the Grecian/Park Hospital in Mohali. Dr Bedi had just taken over as the Director and was faced with 3 patients who needed urgent surgery on his very first day itself. Dr Bedi – who has so far operated upon over 20,000 heart patients -  examined the cases and realized that they all needed very urgent surgery . 

Mr Harbans Singh (name changed) a 55 year CTU bus driver old from Nayagaon   had suffered multiple heart attacks and was continuing to have severe chest pain. His heart pumping was very low . He underwent a beating heart triple bypass . An artificial heart assist machine was kept on standby as it was feared that his heart would be too weak. However he responded so well to the perfectly done surgery that the artificial heart was not needed .

Mrs Gulshan Devi (name changed) a 55 year old landowner from Mandi   had undergone a angiography from a Tanda Hospital and was told to get early surgery which was not available there . She too underwent a beating heart surgery with special grafts taken from her hand.

Mr Balwant Singh (name changed) an elderly carpenter from Rajpura had a critical block in his main artery . His angiography had been done at a premier Institute of Chandigarh and early surgery advised . He was covered by the Ayushman scheme . He too underwent a delicate beating heart  bypass and his heart recovered .

Dr Bedi told that all 3 cases had to be done as emergency cases. Although Dr Bedi’s  team was new to the Grecian Hospital but the team comprises highly trained professionals who have been successfully doing heart surgeries since over 3 decades . In fact it was Dr Bedi himself who had performed the very first successful heart surgery in the Private Sector in Punjab in Dec 1995.  Dr Bedi has worked extensively   in the Escorts Heart Hospital New Delhi and the St Vincents Hospital Sydney and has a number of World First Heart and Vascular surgeries to his credit .

The Park group is a large chain of super specialty hospitals. The one at Mohali is cardiac flagship hospital located at Sector 69. “The new assignment is also a fulfillment of my long cherished aim to start heart and lung transplants also so that patients from this area are benefitted ” Dr Bedi added.
