A Closer Look: Understanding Different Medical Imaging Techniques:

Today's medical technologies have emerged as sources of efficient treatments beyond expectations. Developed in 1896 to identify colles fractures, medical imaging today is used to diagnose, monitor, and treat various human conditions. Technologies like ultrasound imaging, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), radiography, and computed tomography are being utilised by the best radiologists in India.

Interventional radiology refers to using medical imaging to guide minimally invasive surgery. Minimally Invasive surgeries are performed through small incisions to treat the patients efficiently and quickly. Interventional radiology procedures also tend to be less risky and incur fewer patient costs than traditional surgeries.

Commonly used Medical Imaging Techniques:

X-rays: A form of electromagnetic radiation, like light, where high levels of energy can pass through objects such as the body. X-rays are utilized to get a closer look at the tissues and structures in the body. This helps scans for diseases. X-rays detect and diagnose common diseases such as bone fractures, pneumonia, injuries, calcifications, foreign objects, and dental problems.

Computed Tomography CT: this form of testing combines various X-ray images from different angles of your body. It formulates similar cross-sectional images of the bones, blood vessels, and tissues. CT scans are used to provide more detailed views in comparison to basic X-rays.

Similarly to X-rays, Computed Tomography has been used for diagnosing and monitoring:

  • multiple bone tumors
  • Bone fractures,
  • locating Blood Clots
  • locating tumors
  • Locating infections
  • Radiation therapy
  • Biopsy surgeries

MRI scans: MRI scans use strong radio waves and magnetic fields to generate simulations of the body and its various organs and tissues. These help doctors view and diagnose injuries, tumors, and certain heart problems. MRI scans are generally non-invasive and harmless.

MRI scans have also been used for diagnosing a wide array of problems, such as:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Tumors
  • Cysts
  • Breast cancer screening for women
  • Injuries to the joints
  • Certain heart problems
  • Liver diseases
  • Abdominal problems

Ultrasound imaging: ultrasound imaging, also called sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to help doctors view the body's insides. This derailed diagnosis also helps showcase the movement of the Internal organs in real-time. Ultrasound Imaging is also less harmful than a standard X-ray because there is no exposure to ionizing radiation.

Discovered in 1956, today, ultrasound imaging is used for diagnosing multiple problems such as:

  • Assess joint inflammation
  • Locate gallbladder diseases
  • Visualize the flow of blood cells
  • Locate metabolic bone disease
  • Locate and analyze breast lumps
  • check for thyroid Glands

Fluoroscopy: This form of medical imaging shows an X-ray image in a continued form. A fluoroscopy is used by some of the best interventional radiologist in IndiaThe procedure helps gather a more clinical and detailed view of the tissues and organs in motion.

A fluoroscopy is used for various reasons, such as:

  • Monitor the intestines and stomach
  • Guide medical procedures that involve the usage of catheters, stents, etc
  • View internal bones and whether they have been fixed by surgery

Benefits of Interventional Radiology:

Minimally invasive procedures: Most IR procedures are minimally invasive or non-invasive

due to minor or no incisions. This, in turn, leads to lesser pain and minor or no tissue damage.

Faster recovery: Fluoroscopy and interventional radiology procedures are largely performed on an outpatient basis, eliminating the need for a designated hospital stay. Patients can return home fairly quickly. This happens more often while dealing with one of the Best interventional radiologists in Delhi

Cost-effectiveness: In certain cases, interventional radiology imaging is much better than traditional procedures because they are minimally invasive and reduce the need for long hospital stays that usually incur high costs.

Interventional radiology at Park Group of Hospitals:

Home to some of the best interventional radiologists in India, Park Group of Hospitals and their surgeons are skilled in conducting various imaging procedures using CT scans, X-rays, MRIs, fluoroscopy and Park Hospitals specially design Cathlabs.

At Park Hospital, IR procedures are incorporated to treat diseases such as cancer, vascular problems, neurovascular problems, and gastrointestinal disorders. The IR procedures at park hospitals carry fewer risks, Come with the latest technological interventions, and require shorter hospital stays.
