Back pain can be very uncomfortable and debilitating sometimes. It can stop you from working and make you bother with your daily schedule.

The problem can be very disturbing and may have different causes, which are mentioned below:

Strain

The major reason for upper & lower back pain is a strain, tension, and injury. Here are some frequent causes of back pain:

  • Muscle tension
  • Damaged disks
  • Sports injury or fractures
  • Lifting heavy weight improperly or with wrong postures

Movement & Posture

Usually, backache can be the result due to adopting poor posturing while working in the office on a seat.

  • Kidney problem

Kidney stones or infections may cause backache.

  • Sciatica

When a sharp pain starts from your buttock and travels down to the back of your leg, can be caused by bulging or herniated disk pressing on a nerve.

Symptoms of back pain

The primary symptom is ache or pain anywhere in the back and sometimes in the buttocks and legs.

It is okay if the back pain goes away on its own, else you need treatment or go to see a doctor if it combines with the following symptoms:

  • Frequent fever condition
  • Inflammation or swelling on your back
  • Pain that reaches below your knees
  • Weight loss
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Numbness around the buttocks or anus
  • Numbness around the genitals

How to diagnose the reason for back pain?

A doctor always asks some questions like the frequency & intensity of pain, about injuries, or some medical condition you are going through.

Secondly, if the condition doesn’t look normal to the doctor, he/she will ask you to go through X-Ray, MRI, or CT scan to know the state of soft tissues in the back.

Bones scan are referred to detect bone tumours or compression fractures and Electromyography or EMG can also be conducted to know the condition of muscles.
